6440-975-Good Sam Nepal Earthquake
On Saturday, April 25, a devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 hit the capital city of Nepal, killing more than 8,000 people. Then, on May 12, a second large earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 struck near Mount Everest, killing more than 40.
Although seismologists have been predicting a large earthquake in this region of Asia, rescue and emergency efforts were chaotic.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Minendra Rijal told Indian television, "Our country is in a moment of crisis and we will require tremendous support and aid."
Churches and faith communities are among those affected by the earthquake. Immediate needs for food, shelter, and relief will last for multiple days. With monsoon season fast approaching, the Nepalese will not only be dealing with rebuilding after the earthquakes, but also surviving heavy rains with minimal housing available.
WorldVenture seeks to mobilize relief and prayer efforts through its extensive church networks. Once we have provided substantial emergency solutions, we plan to bring holistic restoration to the Nepalese people with the hope of the gospel.
WorldVenture will work through its primary partnerships to make sure donations will benefit the Nepalese people. WorldVenture's aid will be distributed through immediate relief efforts, intermediate rehabilitation, and long-term redevelopment.
Things Needed for Success
After the first phase of physical relief regarding food and shelter, we will begin seeking community solutions for development and rebuilding.
