6438-901-Slovenia Support for National Work

For the past several years, we have been assisting (in a limited way) a Baptist church-plant in Maribor, Slovenia. The primary church planters are IMB missionaries, Randy and Joan Bell. The church is in its 13th year with a congregation of about 35-40 people.

This past fall, I was asked to help develop the leadership team, which has been a very positive step for the development of the church. During this same period of time, the church called its first teaching pastor, Bostjan Cifer (a Bible school graduate).

Slovenia, Eastern Europe

The Problem
The church has been able to give Bostjan a salary of 300 euros per month. Bostjan married and moved to Maribor with his new wife to work full-time at the church. They will need a basic salary of 1000 euros per month.

A student ministry in Slovenia has approached Bostjan and the Baptist church about Bostjan working with students in Maribor, in addition to his ministry at the church. The student ministry is willing to provide 500 euros per month. Another couple has offered to add 50 euros per month, so at present 850 of the 1000-euro goal is met.

Our Vision
We would like to recommend Bostjan Cifer for the International Partner in Ministry program and would like to contribute to off-setting a portion of his salary.

Our Strategy
The goal of every church planter is to turn the church over to a healthy national leadership team. We have the opportunity to help this church go from being missionary-led to nationally-led. If they are assisted financially for five years, they should grow enough to be able to stand on their own and be able to support their own pastor.

Things Needed for Success
We would like to raise $10,000 that would go to Bostjan's salary over the next five years. We are committed to helping Bostjan and his wife for $2,000 a year or approximately $166 a month.
