The Czech Republic is a beautiful country in the heart of east central Europe. It share borders with Poland and Germany to the north and northwest, Austria to the south, and Slovakia to the east and southeast. Two regions divide the land: Bohemia, a plateau surrounded by snowcapped mountains; and Moravia, covered with rolling hills. The climate is characterized by warm summers and cold winters.

Open, friendly, and curious, the Czech people are known for their love of the arts and loyalty to age-old traditions. Occupied over the centuries by Austria, Germany, and the former Soviet Union, the Czechs have repeatedly fought for identity and self-rule. After World War I, the Czechs joined with Slovaks to form the republic of Czechoslovakia. Within twenty years, this new country faced invasions by Hitler’s forces and later by Soviet troops, ushering in a period of violent suppression and Communism. In 1989, ongoing liberation efforts and the Czech people’s desire for freedom produced a dramatic, largely peaceful political change called the "Velvet Revolution." The Communist stranglehold was finally broken. On January 1, 1993, Czechoslovakia split into two peaceful countries: the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Privatization of business and industry continues to progress slowly.

    WorldVenture's Work in Czech Republic
WorldVenture workers seek to provide what the Czech people have been missing-the fresh, redeeming work of Jesus Christ. As the only mission agency directly partnering with the Czech Baptist Union, WorldVenture is involved in church planting throughout the Czech Republic. Several outreaches have resulted from this partnership, including ministry to youth with difficult backgrounds and job skill assistance for the unemployed. Goals and Future Direction of the Work
It is WorldVenture’s vision to continue partnering with the Czech Baptist Union to plant more churches. Baptist Union leadership would like to have ten more workers to help in the harvest, but is willing to start with a single family. Now is the time for WorldVenture to make a difference at the local and national level.
