| The Land and the People of Austria |
|
Austria is a beautiful, mountainous country slightly smaller than the state of Maine. The Austrian Alps form parallel ridges running west to east. The alpine western and southern regions of Austria are romantic, picturesque and isolated. Eastern Austria is centered on the Danube River and Vienna, the capital city. Flowing through Austria east and west, the Danube is the principal river highway that gives this landlocked country access to the Black Sea. Austria also boasts world-class cultural offerings; coffee houses; over 1,000 years of history and diplomacy; a neutral government and a western economy. The Austrian people are experiencing the draw of materialism, the vacuum caused by nominal religion and the search for meaning in an age of tolerance. Austria today is a landscape of paradoxes: maintaining traditions while looking to New Age philosophies; leading the world in charitable giving as well as high suicide rates; and living in highly valued yet often dysfunctional families.

| WorldVenture's Work in Austria |
|
WorldVenture’s Austria team has become as diverse as the ways to order coffee in a Viennese coffee house. In view of maturing church-plants and a gift-oriented strategy, WorldVenture’s focus has expanded to beyond church planting and development to include leadership training, evangelism and discipleship among mainly Muslim refugees, and missionary training in central and Eastern Europe. | Goals and Future Direction of the Work |
| WorldVenture in Austria envisions growth by adding ministries such as facilitation and training of short-term teams for ministry for all parts of Europe, as well as concerted efforts to reach out to Austrian youth. Another goal is increased outreach to refugees in Austria. However, WorldVenture’s "bread and butter" focus in this European country will continue to be the development of New Testament churches, with an emphasis on the training of Austrian leaders. |
