Ministry-at-a-Glance
Primary Ministry Focus Gary: New Testament professor of ESEPA Seminary along with 28 years of experience as pastor, teacher, professor, writer, academic dean and seminary president. Karen: Member Care and Orientation for Missionary Kids. Karen has been serving missionary families through counseling and education since 2000. She plans to continue through such programs as children’s orientation and re-entry, as well as parent forums and Internet resources. Major Challenges The Shogrens face two major challenges in theological education. First of all, there is a strong current of anti-intellectualism throughout the Latin American church making it difficult to convince pastors of the value of intense Bible study. The second challenge is the pervasive belief in the prosperity gospel amidst the church. This makes Bible-centered teaching unattractive to many Christians. Prayer Focus Pray for ESEPA during their President’s absence and in the continual need of raising additional funds to be able to return to the field. Also pray for development of a ministry website for Karen.
