Michael and Dawna Jaffarian both grew up in Oregon, met Jesus in childhood, and felt called to missionary service as teenagers. While studying at the Fuller School of World Mission in Pasadena, California, they completed a short-term ministry with WorldVenture in India. The Jaffarians were appointed for career missionary service to India, but were re-directed to Singapore. Calvin, their son, was 1 1/2 when they arrived; their daughter, Jasmine, was born during their six years of service there.
In 1992 the World Evangelization Research Center in Richmond, Virginia, invited Michael and Dawna to help with the second edition of the World Christian Encyclopedia. This is a two-volume reference set that presents extensive, detailed information of strategic importance to world evangelization, including statistics on Christianity, religion, and evangelization in every country of the world. Published in 2001, it is used by missionaries and Christian leaders all over the globe. Michael’s work on the encyclopedia equipped him for ongoing global missions research. His work provides tools for missions mobilization, education, intercession, and networking. Now his most significant project is helping with the next edition of Operation World, a guide to praying for every country in the world.
The Lord has led Dawna to work with the children of new missionaries. Every year, hundreds of missionaries are trained at the missionary learning center near Richmond. While the parents are involved in new missionary orientation programs, Dawna works with parallel programs for their kids. Her experience as a missionary mom overseas has added to the program’s effectiveness.
