Vision:
Our vision is to help churches and parents develop missional kids who have God’s heart for the world.
History:
Kid’s Missions Camp started in 2001 out of a dream that founder, Doug Hazen, had to help raise up missionaries for the 2020’s and 2030’s. Doug realized two things that motivated him to start this camp. First, many of our present missionaries were called by God when they were children. Children often have a soft heart for God. Second, most children don’t have the exposure to missionaries and missions in general that children 15 or 20 years ago enjoyed. So, in partnership with Jonah Ministries and Karen Neumann, a children’s mission resource specialist and former missionary, Kid’s Missions Camp was launched. Growth has been steady and presently we are helping two churches from other parts of the Northwest start their own camps. We want to see this idea spread to churches and camps all over the United States.
Promo for kids:
Imagine a camp that just talks about missions! Oh, that’s not all that happens at this camp. There are tons of activities like water sports, night games, hikes, caves and interactive games. But the main thing you get is meeting real live missionaries and real people from other countries. You get to “visit” other countries, hear about their cultures, and maybe eat some of their food. You learn about world religions and find out how God is reaching people all over the world. Boring? Not at all! How would you like to board an “airplane” and fly to four countries around the world? We did that last year complete with passports, visas, but NO shots!! Or how would you like to go to camp thinking you were going to learn about refugees only to find out you BECAME one? Yup! Happened at Missions Camp a couple of years ago. How about having a missionary from Japan hook up his laptop and web cam and do sign language with his Japanese colleagues in Japan. Yes, we did that. Or how about having a missionary pilot fly his plane in and tell you all about missionary aviation. Oh yeah… we’ve done that TWICE. Getting into the mind of a Hindu, Buddhist or Muslim, having a missionary skydiver tell you about facing risk, enjoying a huge Chinese banquet, meeting a big, tall (7 ft?) Sudanese pastor, drinking tea with a story telling missionary from North Africa, and on and on and on. We’ve done it all and the kids who have come keep coming back. This is one COOL camp! The only thing missing is YOU!
Dates for 2008: July 6 - 10
